Santiago, Chile, Feb 18 (Prensa Latina)
Jorge Huenchullan, a Mapuche leader detained on February 17 at a violent police operation in Temucuicui, 373 miles south this capital, was sent to the Angol prison, it was reported on Sunday.
Collipulli's Court termed Huenchullan a fugitive from justice, because it had orders of pending detentions for the alleged attack to Jaime Andrade, former director of the National Indigenous Development Corporation.
According to indigenous people, landowner Rene Urban, whose property is protected by police forces and with 20 accusations against members of the indigenous community, accused Huenchullan of robbery.
Another two rebels detained together with Huenchullan, Cristian Calhueque Millanao, 25, and Alex San Martin Huaiquillan, 19, were accused of "illegal carrying and possession of fire arms" and they must sign a registration every 30 days and stay in the region.
Police reported that a home-made shotgun and four cartridges with 12 millimeters were confiscated to them.
Defense indigenous rights organizations denounced this will be "one more of the long list of legal proceedings affecting community, questioned by several human rights, national and foreign organizations."
The Chilean Communist Party has denounced those outrages taking place for months in that region, become a para-police state against origin ethnics that only defend the ancestral property of lands.
